ABOUT J. ALBERT & SON
Robert Albert, Chairman, Albert Group of Companies.
"It was clear to me from the very first time I met Wayne that the continued development and manufacture of his remarkable pianos here was a marvellous project that just had to be encouraged and supported, so that their innovative construction and superb quality could be further developed, and the pianos promoted and distributed to Australia and the world.

Australia had not had its own piano manufacturing industry for over 40 years so support of Wayne’s initiative by my family’s business seemed a natural progression. J Albert & Son has been a pace-setter in the Australian music industry for more than 100 years and during this time we have been committed to fostering and encouraging Australian music and music talent.

Our relationship with Wayne Stewart and his magnificent pianos further demonstrates this commitment."

About J. Albert & Son
J. Albert & Son is one of Australia’s oldest independent music and entertainment companies. The business began in Sydney in 1885 as a clock and violin repair shop run by a Swiss immigrant, Jacques Albert. Over the next 50 years it branched out to become one of the country’s largest music publishers. It was also a pioneer in commercial and public radio – and one of the founders of today’s Australian Broadcasting Corporation - and for many years owned a network that included stations in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra such as Radio 2UW and 4BC.

Alberts has published and continues to publish much of Australia’s and the world’s most popular music of the past century, from Irving Berlin to the Beach Boys. It also represents the entire AC/DC and Harry Vanda and George Young catalogues.

Albert Productions, the company’s record label, in tandem with Albert Studios, has been at the forefront of the Australian music industry since the ’60s, most notably recording AC/DC, but also producing a string of hits for Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, the Easybeats, John Paul Young, the Ted Mulry Gang, Rose Tattoo, the Angels and the Choirboys. Its roster today includes AC/DC and contemporary artists The Answer, The Beasts of Bourbon, Breed 77, Dallas Crane and the Skybombers. It is the most successful independent Australian label, having produced 20 top 10 singles and 18 top 20 albums between1972-80. In 2003 the label was launched in the United Kingdom and currently has The Answer and Breed 77 on its roster. The label both in Australia and overseas remains committed to discovering, nurturing and developing careers for musical artists.

Alberts is also responsible for one of Australia’s most popular films, Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom, which was commissioned by Alberts Managing Director at the time, Ted Albert. The film gave new life to an old hit, John Paul Young’s recording of the Vanda and Young classic, Love Is In the Air.

Alberts supports Australian innovation and has, in partnership with Stuart & Sons, been working to redefine the piano with Tasmanian Wayne Stuart a master piano maker. The aim is to offer pianists a broader palette of expression through the greater clarity and tonal richness of the Stuart & Sons’ handcrafted grand piano.

Alberts has a longstanding involvement in music-related community partnerships, and supports McDonald’s Performing Arts Challenge, Mission Australia’s Sounds of the Street program and Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy.
